It’s the Hope That Gets You (Again)

So… we lost 2–1.

I’m not even surprised anymore. Not shocked. Not angry in a dramatic, throw-the-remote way. Just that familiar, slow nod of recognition like: “ah yes… there it is again.”

Because supporting Swindon Town isn’t really about results, it’s about managing the side effects of hope.

And hope… is a dangerous thing.

You could feel it yesterday as well. Proper crowd. Proper noise. A reminder, if anyone needed one — that this club still has something about it. There’s life there. There’s potential. There’s a fanbase that will turn up, believe, and back it when given even the smallest excuse.

And that’s what makes it worse.

Because the ingredients are there. They always are.
Big club for the level.
Good support.
Flashes of something that looks like a plan.

But then… you get what we got.

Another “nearly.”
Another “if only.”

And at some point you have to say it , the sooner we clear out the current board and the usual hangers-on, the better. Because this club shouldn’t be drifting like this. Not with what it’s got behind it. Not with what it could be.

Still…

We’ll all be back.

August rolls around, fixtures drop, and like absolute goldfish we convince ourselves:
“new season, fresh start, this could be it.”

Because that’s what football does to you.

And just to really lean into the chaos, we’ve got the World Cup coming up as well. Another summer of talking ourselves into belief, dreaming big, and inevitably setting ourselves up for… well…

You know.

Because whether it’s Swindon or England…

It’s the hope that gets you. Every single time. ⚽
