The N.E.C 31 Jan – 1 Feb 2026

The Haphazard Athlete (and his team, by which I mean my long-suffering wife) will be heading to the Show to “check out the latest kit”. This is, of course, a lie. I will absolutely look at the kit, nod thoughtfully, mutter something about “marginal gains”, and then immediately be distracted by cake. A lot of cake. Possibly all of the cake.
In a moment of questionable judgment and zero dignity, I will also be wearing a T-shirt with Haphazard Athlete emblazoned across the back. Yes, really. I can only apologise in advance. If you see a slightly awkward man hovering near a coffee stand, pretending he’s not there purely for baked goods, that will be me. Please do come and say hello. I promise I’m friendlier than the T-shirt suggests.
We’ll be blogging from the Show as well, most likely on Sunday. This is partly because I will be doing Parkrun and Worcester Rave Run on Saturday, and partly because I really want to see Phily Bowden. Apart from being a phenomenal athlete, she also has the kind of social media reach I can only dream of — the sort where you post something and people actually notice, rather than my usual approach of shouting into the void and hoping at least my mum clicks “like”.
So yes: kit, cake, mild embarrassment, and aspirational people who make running look far easier than it has any right to be. See you there.
