Other

So what goes in “other”? Not entirely sure yet, to be honest. But this year we (me and the long-suffering Mrs Haphazard) have a few fairly big trips planned, which feels like it probably belongs here somehow, even if I’m not quite sure why yet.

First up, in August, we’re celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. That’s silver, apparently, who knew? (I did, obviously.) To mark the occasion, we’re spending some time in Tokyo and then heading off on a cruise around Japan, which still feels slightly unreal when I say it out loud. There will almost certainly be a lot of walking (hopefully a parkrun if the timings work out), a lot of food, and a lot of me getting quietly lost while confidently insisting I know exactly where I’m going. There’s also a running track on the cruise ship, so that’s definitely going to get tested, whether it likes it or not.

Then later in the year, to celebrate our daughter’s 21st birthday, we’re taking her (and her boyfriend) to Disneyland Paris. This is equal parts exciting and mildly terrifying, for reasons that probably don’t need explaining. It also means I’ll once again find myself queueing for rides while pretending I’m doing it purely for her benefit. Very much looking forward to Tower of Terror, bloody love that ride well, the Hollywood Studios version anyway. Ooo, ooo, and we’re probably going to visit the Disney parks in Tokyo as well, which should be great fun… if slightly eye-watering from a cost perspective.

Because of all this, there’s a vague, not-very-well-defined plan to do some kind of Haphazard travel blog. Emphasis very much on “vague”. Whether that turns into regular updates, occasional rambling posts, or quietly fizzles out after three entries remains to be seen. But the idea is there, hovering in the background, waiting to either become a thing… or be forgotten entirely.
